Absztrakt:

The paper analyses the current tendencies in the Hungarian home-based senior care market and the interrelation of the state, the informal market, and households. It scrutinises the developments of care economies in Hungary in the context of an increasingly formalised, transnational care market in Europe and shows that the shortage of legislation of home-based care provision and the low financial state investment paralleled with growing care demands result in an intensified outflow of professional care workers and consequently in the de-professionalisation of care within Hungary. The empirical research was conducted between 2021 and 2024 with qualitative methodology, namely a regime analysis and semi-structured interviews with different stakeholders, including care workers, family members, matchmaking companies, and other intermediaries.
