Absztrakt:
Despite the rise of dual-earner households, gendered disparities in domestic labor remain entrenched. This lecture delves into gender inequalities in the household, explaining why they are culturally accepted in our societies, and how hunter-gatherers - our best approximation of human evolutionary past - provide an exception to this norm. Modeling the household as a bargaining problem, we can begin to understand why certain inequalities exist, but also, how they can be avoided. Drawing on research from multiple fields, the talk will explore how external opportunities, societal expectations, and individual biases can be combined for more equitable outcomes.
