Research Interests

Gábor Erőss, PhD, is a senior researcher at the Institute for Sociology, Centre for Social Sciences. He completed his studies at the University of Paris V - René Descartes, Eötvös Loránd University, and the University of Bielefeld. He earned his doctoral degree in 2003 at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris and Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest.

His primary research area is public education, while he also deals with cultural sociology, sociology of health, ethnic studies and political sociology. Throughout the years, he has received support and postdoctoral fellowships for his research from the Collegium Budapest, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Centre for Comparative History of Europe (Berlin), the Solomon Asch Centre for the Study of Ethnopolitical Conflict, and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. In the autumn of 2020, he was a guest lecturer at the Department of Sociology and Education Sciences (LIRTES) at Université Paris-Est Créteil.
His cultural sociology monograph, titled “L'Art de l'Histoire: Construction sociale de l'authenticité et de la vraisemblance historiques au cinéma” was published in French in 2015 (Paris, L'Harmattan). He is the author and co-editor of three volumes on educational sociology. In addition to numerous articles and book chapters in Hungarian, he has published in international journals such as Soziale Welt, Semiotica, and Revue Française de Pédagogie.

He is a member of the editorial board of the French social sciences journal Questions de communication.
