Boglárka Herke: Welfare deservingness of genders and family types
While the literature on perceived deservingness of welfare target groups is continually growing, the investigations are usually gender-blind, and examine deservingness only in general, even though norms of the traditional gender division of labour might influence these perceptions. Another area of deservingness research that has been less explored in the past is the extent to which different types of families are perceived as deserving by the public. This is another interesting question, because various principles (e.g., pronatalism, poverty reduction) may influence the support for different family types (e.g., large, single-parent). The research provides a systematic literature review on this topic and investigates these two research areas based on Hungarian survey data.
